I've wanted to do a group photo of my dolls for quite awhile now, so I finally did so today.
I think my boy Raven, looks rather pleased to be surrounded by so many girls.
I never thought I'd ever end up with 4 of them. I was so amazed back when I got my first that I never even though I'd end up with more. I'm not currently planning to get more... but if I ever did, I think I'd save up for a Saber Lily DD by Volks... although I'd probably have to sell a kidney to ever afford her.
From left to right: Saber Extra (Volks), Raven (Luts Moon), Nell (Luts Lishe), and Neris (Volks).
-Photo by me. -Taken in my room in front of my figure cabinets. -I have more photos of them posted here: [link]
It's so funny to see people I subscribe to for drawing also end up owning dolls xD They're really pretty ^^ (especially the Moon, but I've always had the hots for that mold xD)
So may I ask, how do you get these dolls? Do you order them by providing a description of what you want? And how much would the Saber Lily DD cost, if you do not mind my asking?
I bought them directly from the manufactures web sites (except Neris which I got second hand). Both Neris and Saber are licensed characters (they're from games and animes) made by Volks. The Other two were bought from Luts: [link] . The boy was a full package, meaning that he came with a completed outfit, wig, eyes, etc. The girl was just a regular purchase, and things like wigs and outfits were bought separately. There are a lot of different doll companies making all sorts of dolls, so I pretty much just browsed around until I found the ones I liked.
A lot of people do customize them though and make them into their own characters. They usually look around until they find a doll they like, then they look for wigs, clothes etc. Many paint their faces the way they want as well to better match their characters, or they commission artists to do so. I've never done and 'face ups' myself as I'm still to scared to take a brush to their faces, so all of my dolls were ordered with the faces already painted.
Price wise, there's a huge range. For these larger dolls (called 'super dollfie') the average is about $500-$800 for a bare doll up to over $1000 for a full package with clothing included. Volks dollfie dreams (which is what Saber and Neris are) are retailed for about $800, but are sold in very limited quantities. The characters are usually licensed ones which make collectors of the certain series want them more. Saber Lily DD was released a long time ago, and the only way to get her now is by buying from a private seller.... and well, you can see how much they are charging for her here (ebay): [link] Some scary prices eh?
is the boy in steam punk style?
